Sam Barlow, creator of the groundbreaking and award-winning narrative game Her Story, has announced his latest project, Telling Lies. It's a completely separate story from Her Story, but will follow in the same vein, being that it will be an FMV-led interactive movie. It's being published by Annapurna Interactive, which will also oversee the production of the live-action parts of the game.
Telling Lies expands on the formula of Her Story. Filming is set to start at the end of this year or early 2018. Apparently, Barlow has watched 1974's thriller movie The Conversation extensively for reference. The different characters will weave different perspectives throughout the game, which is sure to confuse - and hopefully, engage - players. However, it'll feature an entirely new story, characters, and locations.
"'Her Story' was me doing everything I wanted to do the last 10 years in one shot", Barlow said.
It's going to be a while before we can play it, though, as scripting is currently underway and talent is not yet scouted. In this, the audience is in control - we have space where the player can jump around. Some scenes very little spoken dialogue.
