"Star Wars: The Last Jedi" hits theaters this December 15. He's not just hiding because he's scared.
We know nearly nothing about this shadowy figure, known only as "DJ", except that he's somehow connected to the gambling planet Canto Bight, that he dresses all in black, and that he's a bit slimy. The amount of willpower that encourages one to avoid new footage must be high because millions of fans can not resist seeing any new glimpses at the continuing adventures of Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega), Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver).
"[Luke] made a huge mistake in thinking that his nephew [Ben Solo] was the chosen one, so he invested everything he had in Kylo, much like Obi-Wan did with my character", Hamill says. Both Darth Vader and Yoda forced him to confront the idea that he did have darkness within him and that a time would come when Luke would need to choose between the easy path and the harder, trauma-filled life of a Jedi.
Five more months and we'll all be sitting pretty in a cinema munching away on overpriced stale popcorn that's just one unpopped kernel away from sending us to the dentist.
This leads us to believe that Rey's journey is very similar to that of Luke's. We've already seen that Luke's experiment in training new Jedi went wrong, so it makes sense that he'd be afraid to mess anything up. "And he is betrayed, with tragic consequences".
- To help him get into the right frame of mind, Hamill talked extensively with Johnson about what happened to Luke after "Return of the Jedi". Luke feels responsible for that.
Boyega, who's reprising his role as Finn, the stormtrooper turned resistance fighter introduced in the previous chapter, says that his character might be experiencing some second thoughts about his role in the mission.
"He appreciates [Rose's] adoration for a second", Boyega recounts, "But when he meets her, Finn is trying to escape the whole war". She's not the best.
"The secrecy does have a goal in that part of the fun with Laura's character, with Admiral Holdo, is figuring out what her relationship is to everybody as you go along through the movie", Johnson says. "That was really interesting to me, the notion of putting this small army under a lot of external pressure and showing some of the results within the Resistance itself". In this game, the player character, a former Jedi, comes across a series of people who just don't care about the lengthy history of wars between the Jedi and the Sith - they're out for personal survival, and that means ignoring the big galactic politics and the war between good and evil.
