They just care about the level of compete and how competitive the tournament will be. He spent the majority of his North American pro career in the American Hockey League before going abroad.

Defenseman Cody Goloubef and forward Rene Bourque were named Thursday to the Canadian Olympic team for the Pyeongchang Games in February.

But blame the NHL for that and don't hold it against the group of 25 that were, to a man, thrilled at getting the call from Burke. In 49 games with Minsk Dynamo of the KHL, he has 29 points.

Goalies Justin Peters, Kevin Poulin and Scrivens have 277 NHL games between them, spread between eight teams.

The NHL is not allowing its players to suit up for the Olympics.

"I have to thank (Hockey Canada) for the geography lesson and the air miles", said Burke, joking at a press conference Thursday.

And then there's forward Wojtek Wolski, who a year ago was recovering in hospital from a broken neck. Mat Robinson and Chris Lee are the only players on Team Canada without previous NHL experience.

Andrew Ebbett, 35, of Vernon is on the Canadian Olympic men's hockey team. He played two pre-Spengler Cup events with Team Canada, pocketing no points in two games as Canada went 1-2 at the Karjala Cup in Finland in November.

Canada's head coach Willie Desjardins also hails from Climax, Sask.
